Why do people prefer to buy Snapdragon over the MediaTek processor in smartphones?
Snapdragon and MediaTek are two of the most well-known and successful chipset manufacturers and comparison of two or more of their chipsets is not a new thing. The comparison is often made between the chipsets of MediaTek and Qualcomm. There is no doubt that Snapdragon chipsets were dominating the smartphone industry for a while and were considered as the best that smartphones could get, however one must also be aware of the fact that Snapdragon used to be the best. The same changed right after the inception of MediaTek.
As of now, MediaTek processors get the same preference as Snapdragon and there is absolutely no difference. In fact, there are some MediaTek chipsets which stand better than the corresponding Snapdragon ones and thus, you would find no difference in the power of MediaTek and Snapdragon chipsets, though there is a difference in the cost as always. Snapdragon started manufacturing smartphone chipsets way before MediaTek did and thus, they are popular due to their operation for a longer period of time. And while MediaTek processors came into existence, they suffered some really grave troubles such as heating etc.
MediaTek which offered people the real portray of power when it introduced multiple cores in a chipset and MediaTek was the first brand to have produced deca-core chipsets in the market. Though these deca-core chipsets were discontinued due to heating issues, they had immense power to drive any kind of heavy task.
Eventually, MediaTek made a lot of changes with time and they brought rapid improvement in the smartphone chipsets. In fact, the progress of MediaTek in the field of chipsets was way better than Snapdragon and the proof for this is that today, both MediaTek and Snapdragon are in tough competition with each other in the market and many would also say that MediaTek has overpowered Snapdragon in many ways. Over time Snapdragon and MediaTek went hand in hand and the market share or the dominance got shared by both these brands.
MediaTek has made a strong standing ground for itself right with the advent of its Helio series. The Helio series have been created and developed in an attempt to provide the consumers with smooth and stable user experience and an efficient heavy-duty gaming session for an extended period of time.
They released the mobile game-oriented G90T through the Redmi Note 8 Pro priced within 20k and they also released G70 which is also mobile; e-game oriented through the Realme C3 and eventually came out with gaming chipsets for affordable in-budget phones as well; Helio G25 and Helio G35. MediaTek G90T has also been able to surpass the Snapdragon equivalent chipset processor 730G in various aspects. The former had a higher AnTuTu score as well as a higher GeekBench score than the latter. The G90T has also been able to launch heavy-duty games like PUBG, Mobile Legends, Asphalt faster than the 730G.
They have also been able to increase their processor speed by using more cores in their processors which results in higher clock speeds for the device. Performance and Speed are boosted with the presence of more cores. Snapdragon, however, has fewer cores than MediaTek which affects the speed of the device it is integrated with.
Therefore, while it’s important to check for basic features when purchasing a phone, it is important to note what goes inside the phone and a processor is the heart and the soul of a smartphone. It is not that Snapdragon is preferred over MediaTek. It is just that consumers believe what they hear and grasp the same.
